Stories entertain us. They carry us away from the familiar and let us experience other lives, other worlds, and other possibilities.
But the stories that stay with us can do something more. They can change the way we see another person. They can ask us to make choices we have never had to make ourselves. Sometimes they even help us understand something about who we are—or who we hope to be.
This page is about why I believe stories matter, and what the stories we tell and remember can reveal about us.
Why Stories Matter to Me

Stories Can Change Us
I’ve always believed that fiction can affect us long after we’ve forgotten the details of a plot. By allowing us to experience the world through someone else’s eyes, stories can challenge our assumptions, deepen our empathy, and sometimes change the way we think.
That belief is one of the reasons I write.
